Strong supramolecular binding of Li(+)@C60 with sulfonated meso-tetraphenylporphyrins and long-lived photoinduced charge separation.

A supramolecular binding occurred between lithium ion encapsulated [60]fullerene (Li(+)@C(60)) and sulfonated tetraphenylporphyrins ([MTPPS](4-) M = H(2) and Zn) in a benzonitrile solution. Photoexcitation of Li(+)@C(60)/[MTPPS](4-) results in formation of a long-lived charge-separated state by photoinduced electron transfer.

Does a nitrogen matter? Synthesis and photoinduced electron transfer of perylenediimide donors covalently linked to C59N and C60 acceptors.

The first perylenediimide (PDI) covalently linked to an azafullerene (C59N) is described. PDI-C59N and PDI-C60 dyads where PDI acts as an electron-donor moiety have been synthesized by connection of the balls to the PDI 1-bay position. Photoexcitation of the PDI unit in both systems results in formation of the charge-separated state by photoinduced electron transfer from the singlet excited sta...

Photoinduced electron transfer in a b,b0-pyrrolic fused ferrocene–(zinc porphyrin)–fullerene

A donor–acceptor linked triad with a short spacer (Fc-ZnP-C60) 1 was designed and synthesised to attain the longest charge-separation lifetime, 630 ms, ever reported for triads at room temperature. The ferrocene electron donor and fullerene electron acceptor of triad 1 are attached to imidazole rings fused to opposite b,b0-pyrrolic positions of the zinc porphyrin. After excitation of the porphy...

Photoinduced electron transfer in a supramolecular triad produced by porphyrin anion-induced electron transfer from tetrathiafulvalene calix[4]pyrrole to Li(+)@C60.

Binding of a porphyrin carboxylate anion () to tetrathiafulvalene calix[4]pyrrole (TTF-C4P) results in electron transfer from TTF-C4P to Li(+)@C60 to produce the charge-separated state (1/TTF-C4P˙(+)/Li(+)@C60˙(-)) in benzonitrile. Upon photoexcitation of , photoinduced electron transfer from the triplet excited state of to TTF-C4P˙(+) occurs to produce the higher energy charge-separated state ...

Geometric influence on intramolecular photoinduced electron transfer in platinum(II) acetylide-linked donor-acceptor assemblies.

A new donor-acceptor system, in which the electron donor triphenylamine (TPA) and the electron acceptor C60 are bridged through a cis- or trans-platinum(II) acetylide spacer have been prepared. Ground-state studies were conducted using electrochemistry and UV/Vis spectroscopy. Fluorescence studies suggested that charge transfer is the deactivation mechanism for the singlet excited state, and th...
